Our Story

Pettibone specializes in material handling equipment. But far more than that, we specialize in developing machines that are safer, tougher, and that are purpose-built to specifically tackle the challenges at hand.

Since 1881, Pettibone has repeatedly established its place as the industry original. But we don’t innovate just for innovation’s sake. Everything we have done – and everything we will continue to do – is to better serve our customers, and to make their jobs safer and easier.

We invented the Cary-Lift – the first forward-reaching rough terrain handler – to provide visibility and stability when handling pipe and similar materials, because articulated wheel loaders pose safety risks when used for that purpose.

  • We designed the Extendo line of telescopic handlers to be stronger, smarter and more durable, because too many competitors make products that don’t last for the long haul.
  • We innovated the horizontal traveling boom for Traverse telehandlers – the only such machine on the market today – because it can place loads more precisely and safely than driving a load into position.
  • We built the railroad maintenance industry’s original do-it-all rail crane, the Speed Swing, because service companies require a versatile vehicle that can address any task on or off the rails.

Our commitment to superior performance is evident in every feature of every machine we produce. Solid construction. Smart features. Heavy capacities. Long reaches. It all adds up to some of the best engineered, most reliable, highest performing material handling equipment on the planet.
